Supporting Programme
Berlin Animation Hub
After six festival editions and extremely positive feedback on networking and business activities within the festival, FAB is expanding this area and will host the Berlin Animation Hub for the first time in 2023. The Berlin Animation Hub will bring artists and producers into contact with each other, but also provide new perspectives and input via workshops, masterclasses, case studies and panel discussions.

In addition, this year you can expect workshops for children, which we can offer for free in cooperation with the Deutsche Kinemathek and Kinderkulturmonat, as well as themed film screenings and networking events like daily meet-ups and our big closing party!
Focus On
Organising festivals is a mammoth job for everyone involved. It’s good that there are also pop-up festivals – these are the small, cheeky experimental forms of the big ones. And they are great to dock onto. Like at FAB: Here FAFF (Factual Animation Film Festival) focuses on animated documentaries and the Shcha7sec nomadic micro-festival of animated films shows 7-second, uncurated film contributions.
The theme of future issues runs through the FAB programme. The Animation HUB will present the VR Experience “Berlin 2037” about the city of the future, and the panel Gamechanger AI will discuss creative possibilities and (legal) risks of AI. And the FAB Dimensional explores the motto “Visioning our Future” with the Mapping Project Contest THEN.
Satellite Events
Even before FAB, there are a few exciting events taking place in cooperation with our respected partners. VJ Open Lab invites you to Session #33 with fascinating live visuals, and in the online panel Now that went wrong in collaboration with AG Animationsfilm we invite you to find out more about Fake Festivals and discuss how to avoid them.

For the fourth time we are hosting the exhibition „FAB Dimensional“, presenting animation art outside the cinema, beyond the clearly limited and familiar framework of linear films.
The medium of animated film per se offers many interfaces to other artistic media such as sculpture, game or installation in its production process and approach. This year‘s exhibition shows eleven international artistic positions that use very different approaches to make animation tangible in space, invite to interaction and amazement.
Dimensional Events
As part of FAB Dimensional, a few unique events will take place this year. In addition to the obligatory vernissage on 9/28 from 7 – 10pm, there will be the 360° screenings Framebreakers presented in the dome hall of silent green as well as a Classic meets Animation event with live animations. Furthermore, a mapping walk with Motomichi as well as two guided tours through the exhibition are planned.
