The Challenge:

We challenge you to create an animated short film of a maximum of 3 minutes within 48 hours. On top of that, your film must relate to a prompt which we will provide!
The films will be screened as part of
the Festival of Animation Berlin (September 29 – October 01, 2023)
and will also be available online after the competition.

There are three prizes to be won:
1st Place: 1000€
2nd Place: 600€

Theme & Process
The theme will be announced via email to registered filmmakers on September 22, 2023, at 3:00 PM. The submission deadline is September 24th at 3:00 PM – sharp!
The results will be shown on Saturday, 9/30 at 9pm in the small cinema of silent green Kulturquartier.
Workspace
Additionally, we offer the opportunity for you to apply for one of six desks in Berlin Kreuzberg, which you can use for free during the 48 hours (from 10 AM to 11 PM). The selection for these spaces will take place on Monday, September 18, 2023, by lottery.
It’s not so bad when you’re working together, also we have snacks!

Who can participate?
Anyone who dares!
Can I work in a team?
Yes, teamwork is welcome!
Do I need to be in Berlin for this?
No, but we’d be happy to see you at the festival (September 29th to October 1st, 2023)!
Who selects the winners?
The jury will be announced later.
Is there a minimum duration for the films?
The films must be a maximum of 3 minutes long. Shorter is also acceptable, as long as you tell a story and address our given theme!

Terms of Participation
• The submitted films will be displayed on the Festival website (www.fa-berlin.com) during and after FAB, as well as on the website of our sponsor (www.boell.de). Therefore, your competition entries must be submitted to us under a CC-BY-NC-ND
license (Creative Commons, more information here). You are, of course, free to commercially distribute your film or submit it to other festivals afterwards.
• Important: The submitted film must not violate the copyrights of third parties. By submitting, you guarantee that the film is free of third party rights (e.g., music rights) and release Animation Network Berlin e.V. and Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung e.V. from any liability or third-party claims.
• The film must be animated or mainly consist of animation. All techniques and styles are allowed.
• Teamwork is allowed and encouraged! However, please provide us with one contact person in charge for further communication.
• Registration does not obligate you to submit a film – but we are pleased if as many films as possible are completed and sent to us!
