FAB 2023
Highlights
At the seventh edition of our festival, FAB 2023, we were truly rolled over by a wave of outstanding animation films, impressive full dome and special screenings, a diverse supporting program and plenty of creative animation vibes throughout the festival weekend at City Kino Wedding and silent green Kulturquartier.
Following the extremely positive feedback on our networking and business activities at previous festivals, we organized the “Berlin Animation Hub” for the first time in 2023. The focus was on events by and for the animation industry, such as our pitching sessions, workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions as well as networking events in a casual atmosphere. We welcomed Ana Chubinidze, Lea Vucko, Damir Grbanovic, Olivier Catherin, Tina Nawrocki, Christen Bach, Émilie Pigeard, Jan Kamensky, Jan Kerhart, Maarten Isaäk de Heer, Motomichi Nakamura, Stella Schaller and many more international artists, studios and collectives as our speakers and lecturers. The great guest screenings of the animation festivals FAFF London and Shcha7sec, as well as the screenings of the 360° programs “Framebreakers” and ” Quartett meets Animation” in the dome hall of silent green were also very well received.
Parallel to the competitions and the supporting program, the fourth edition of the FAB Dimensional exhibition series took place in the concrete hall of silent green. The “Animation Expanded” exhibition, which has now become an important part of our festival, presented a total of eleven international positions this year, which pursued the approach of making animation tangible in physical space. Above all VR and AR technology, projection, 360° and reactive elements were used, which visitors visibly enjoyed trying out.
